Do some vaccines use fetal cells from abortions?

According to some news articles this appears to be true but at the same time seems far out there. What other information do you have to prove or disprove this claim?

Yes. t a is correct. It's funny how the ped. will tell us not to give table food or honey until the child reaches a certain age but they will pump the kid full of animal tissues and alot other yucky stuff. I have this list waiting for the next set of shots my son has to get. No thanks doc! I wish I'd known this 5 years ago. I'm not gonna trash talk the vaccines but I'd rather stay away from them.

No they do not. A few viral vaccines are grown in a tissue culture from fetal cells, however once established the cell line stays alive indefinitely, so abortions due not fuel the vaccine industry. The commonly used cell lines are originally from two abortions more than 40 years ago.

I do not know for sure who is spreading this rumor, but I can guess it was the anti-vaccine movement since they lost the autism link.

Some vaccines are prepared in cells that are cultured in vitro (in the lab).
There are many (literally hundreds) of different cell lines, all of which are slightly different in characteristics from each other. One of the most famous is HeLa, and it was originally isolated from a cervical cancer.
However - some cell lines have been established from aborted foetal tissue (these are *not* embryonic stem cells, BTW):

It is not that doctors abort foetuses in order to use them to make vaccines. It is that doctors use cell lines *that are already in existance* to make vaccines.In some cases, the best cell lines for making the vaccines happen to be those that have originated from foetal tissue.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by some of the answers here which are obviously anti-vaccination. But let me say this:
VACCINES SAVE LIVES!
The first vaccine developed was against smallpox. Smallpox killed 400,000 europeans per year in the 1700s, plus countless people in other countries; in the 20th century, it has been estimated to kill 300-500 *million* people worldwide! It was highly contagious, and would kill between 20-60% of people who became infected (80% of children).
Now vaccines have wiped out smallpox, saving hundreds of thousands of lives every year.

Many other diseases we vaccinate against are also deadly: Diphtheria used to kill around 15,000 people per year in the USA, mostly children. Tuberculosis is preventable by vaccination, but it still causes 2 million deaths worldwide in unvaccinated people.
Even some of the "milder" diseases we vaccinate against can have serious complications. Measles is rarely deadly in a normally healthy individual (roughly 1 death per 1000 cases), but it commonly causes blindness and brain damage.

So for me it is a no brainer. I'm getting my children vaccinated.
