Most of the boats are crewed already, and the big crab season isn't in the summer; it's in the fall and winter. You really almost have to know someone, or just happen to have the luck of the Irish.
You start as a greehorn, and get paid hourly. If you have a great season and you bust a hump, you might get a small share of the prize, but not likely.
Be prepared for misery the likes of which you have never seen. The weather in the Bering Sea is an amazing experience, with waves regularly at 30 and 40 feet high; the wind in your face (and everywhere else) all the time.
But what the heck... You only live once right?
Did my time on a crab boat... never again.Source(s): http://www.adfg.state.ak.us/ http://labor.state.ak.us/esd_alaska_jobs/seafood.h... http://www.alaskajobfinder.com/ http://www.cvtips.com/employment_fisherman_king_cr... http://www.fishex.com/galleries/king-crab-fishing/...
