Software Engineer is a more stable career with more demand in the future.

You can become a Business Analyst after becoming a Software Engineer.

Software engineer has a better salary.

I would choose what you like to do most, its better to enjoy what you do, than hate what you do but makes lots of money.

I've been both and prefer Analyst. The pay is comparable, and Analysts don't get off-shored as frequently as developers. But it really depends on what you like doing for work... they're two very different jobs.

Business analysis profession had a tremendous growth during the last 5 years. The latest prediction by CIO and other magazines reveals that business analysis is growing beyond its traditional boundaries of Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) to other verticals such as automotive, insurance, banking, manufacturing etc. There is another view that all organisations should have a business analyst as the role is evolving as an internal consultant of the organisation. The business analyst is responsible for development within the organisation and preparing it towards the future. I would defninitely say business analyst - hands down.

Source(s): Years of experience in a variety of roles as a software engineer for large companies. Software development is very unstable, dicey, and always being outsourced to India. Not to mention, Comp Sci isn't one of the easier college programs out there.
