An article is now sold at 20% discount.There is a further discount of 10%,what is the overall discount percent.

let the original cost of that thing is A,
Sold at 20% discount:
The new cost = A x (1 - 0.2) = 0.8A
There is a further discount of 10%:
The newest cost = 0.8A x (1 - 0.1)
= 0.8A x 0.9 = 0.72A = A x 72%
100% - 72% = 28%
So, the overall discount percent = 28%

設 the article be $ A :
A(1-20%) x (1-10%) / A
= 0.72A / A
=0.72
so overall discount percent is 18%
sorry .... is so be 28 % but not 18 % : ( 1-0.72) x 100 %
