How strong is the Israel Lobby in the US? Your opinion?
Political Science is one of my majors and we have discussed interest groups and their role in US foreign policy. The Israel Lobby was said to be one of the most powerful ones and also the Cuba Lobby.
How powerful is it exactly? Do you think it interferes with US politics/foreign policy?
Your views on it generally?
Oh right...the NRA was the other one.

The Israel Lobby is no more or no less 'powerful' than any other well run group. If you want 'power' that puts all other lobbies to shame it's the combined impact of the the right wing think tanks, the christian right, the trans-national corporations, the NRA and the Oil Mafia. These groups work hand in glove on most issues and do they ever have the moola. Almost everthing that has to do with our foreign policy revolves around these people. The 'Israel' lobby gets a lot of publicity from that part of the racist right that really has problems with 'the Jews', but the actual 'power' of Israel is at best moderate...in fact, any power that they have is affiliated with the currently non-racist right wing groups. When these right wing groups feel that they no longer need to support Israel you can bet that the 'Israel Lobby' will be pickin' with the chickins' for funds and access to senators and congress critters. The State of Israel knows that in the end it's on it's own..it's its only true best friend!

I think that all lobbyists affect foreign policy. As for the NRA - they mentioned at the start of this administration - "The NRA (National Rifle Association), has raised over $250,000 for Bush and their VP openly bragged at a NRA meeting about the close relationship they will enjoy if Bush is elected."
