Language, the words we use, how we use them, and what is acceptable is dictated by society. We could just as easily make any word profanity if we really wanted to. If we could get the ball rolling and get general society to take up the charge we could make the word profanity profane. Anyway, profanity is rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful in most situations. What about profanity that is used in good times. Winning the lottery Having a child Getting a promotion Sinking the three point winning shot Profanity is used in these times and it is used to celebrate Does this celebratory use eliminate the desecration or contempt of the profanity? Does it eliminate the debasing that is the definition of profanity. If the word is not used in a profane manner is it still profanity?
