    a book=un livre

    books=des livres

    the book=le livre

    the books=les livres

    a novel=un roman

    the novel=le roman

    novels=des romans

    the novels=les romans

    both are masculine

    book = livre

    Book, any kind of book, is "le livre".

    A novel or fictional book, is more specific and "le roman"
