Table 1 summarizes the concentrations of PCDD/

PCDFs in the 11 groups of analyzed foodstuffs. Results

are presented for each of the 17 most toxic congeners for

the previous (2002) and the current survey. The WHOTEQ

values for each group of food samples are also shown

for both surveys. It can be seen that with the exception of

pulses, for which the WHO-TEQ values were rather similar

in both studies, there were important decreases in the current

PCDD/PCDF levels compared with the previous

(2002) one. In 2002, the highest WHO-TEQ values corresponded

to fish (0.270 pg/g wet weight), oils and fats

(0.238 pg/g fat weight), seafood (0.123 pg/g wet weight),

and dairy products (0.083 pg/g wet weight), whereas the

lowest WHO-TEQ values corresponded to vegetables and

fruits: 0.006 and 0.008 pg/g wet weight, respectively. In

the current survey, oils and fats (0.147 pg/g fat weight),

eggs (0.134 pg/g wet weight), fish (0.086 pg/g wet weight)

and seafood (0.069 pg/g wet weight) showed the highest

WHO-TEQ values. However, the lowestWHO-TEQ values

corresponded again to vegetables and fruits: 0.004 and

0.003 pg/g wet weight, respectively. A value of 0.003 pg

WHO-TEQ/g of wet weight was also found in milk (Table

1).

In oils and fats, the current group showing the highest

WHO-TEQ value, the greatest PCDD/PCDF concentration

corresponded to the congener OCDF followed by

OCDD, whereas 2,3,7,8-TCDD was under the respective
