Why was Lord Of the Rings made before the hobbit?

SO Why was It made a movie Before Lord Of The Rings? Wouldn't it have made more sense to make The Hobbit First? Your Kinda Left In The Dark about what they are talking about through some of the film?

Actually, to make LOTR first was a better idea. Granted there was already a popular fan base for the film but making these movies first would garner more fans just because the stories are more exciting. One bad film experience with a movie in a series and it can ruin a possible franchise.

Also, LOTR is more known and well received than The Hobbit. There are examples of this all throughout Hollywood. The Chronicles of Narnia and the BBC version of it both started with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe simply because it was the most popular book and introduces the series better than the Magican's Nephew could. Same thing with LOTR. Another example is The Da Vinci Code. Technically, Angels and Demons is the first book in the series but Da Vinci Code has more of a fanbase.

They explain alot of stuff through out the Lord of the Rings so you are not totally in the dark. Remember Star Wars? George Lucas did the second three before the first three and explained enough to keep us watching. It was meant to get us interested in the series and to see if it would be worth while making the first stories. So now they are making the Hobbit and everybody wants to see it after they have seen the Lord of the Rings, though it was the other way around with the books. Hollywood can be very weird, but they know how to get an audience interested.

My 9 and 11 year-old cousins who had not yet read the books, or The Hobbit, had no problem understanding what they were talking about. I mean, they spell out everything very plainly.

As for why they made the LoTR trilogy before The Hobbit, ask Peter Jackson.

Nika: They also made LoTR cartoons before. However, neither "The Hobbit" or the LoTR cartoons have anything to do with Peter Jackson's versions.

no person had any purpose of coming up the hobbit back whilst they made The Lord of the rings. purely AFTER The Lord of the rings grew to become into distinctly powerful, did everybody think of that they could attempt to offer yet another movie to holiday on the back of The Lord of the hoop's fulfillment.

Why LOTR was made first before The Hobbit? One movie is less profit margin than three movies, these aren't any kind based on a book material, they are from one famous writer whose books sell like candies.

The books were also written and released that way. Maybe he was just following in that tradition. Aside of that. More people have read and understand LOTR than have read the hobbit.

Probably because Peter Jackson wanted an action flick, and while it has some action, the Hobbit doesn't have as much action as Lord of the Rings.
