Need the name of a bad 80s gymnastics movie?
the main character is blonde (real first name might be Janet) who is the "bad" girl. The coach is always mad at her b/c she doesn't do things the traditional way. LIke wanting to use "rock" music for her floor routine (her handicapped cousin mixes a tape for her to use). She falls in love with a male gymnast who winds up breaking her heart (after musical montages of doing gymnastics in the woods), but she goes on to sneak her rock tape into the competition and proves to everyone that she knows her stuff. Anyone know what movie I'm talking about? It's killing me!

Is it "American Anthem" (1986), starring Mitch Gaylord and Janet Jones? Also in the cast are Tiny Wells, Michael Pataki, John Aprea, Michelle Phillips and Peter Tramm, who provided some of the spectacular dancing, in place of Kevin Bacon, in "Footloose".
Steve is a talented gymnast who has given up competition and is working at his father's bike shop. Julie is the new girl at his old gym, who has moved to town to train with their powerful coach. Inspired by Julie, Steve resumes training. While dealing with the conflicts in their personal lives and the stress of training, they prepare for the US Olympic Trials.
Actually, it's Olympic medalist Mitch (now Mitchell) Gaylord who stars in the film. Janet Jones is his co-star. They had hopes of turning this very attractive athlete into a star, but he did only a few other films, including one released this year.
