My girlfriend wants to get a bunch of tattoos, but I don't want her too. What can I do?

I'm not against tattoos, I don't mind a couple that can be covered when you want them to be in selective spots. Because even though it's wrong society will look down upon them. And for me I want to see the beauty that she is naturally. I don't want to see a billboard of images. Maybe it's wrong and she should do what she likes, but I really can't imagine looking like I'm with a biker chick. I think tattoos are ways to cover up insecurities with ones self. And that way people don't see "you" but pictures of other things aswell as the person who gets them put on, instead of seeing them for who they are naturally. They can hide behind images....

Update:

ok umm where did I saw that I didn't love her or wont if she gets a bunch of tattoos??? For people talking about being judgmental you sure are...

Of course I'll still love her we've been together for over 3 years. This obviously puts the wrong impression of me but I am pretty leiniant with a lot of things in our relationship just so happens that tattoos I am opinionated on.

What you can do is absolutely nothing. Since it's her body it's not really up t you how many tattoos she gets. Support her and let her express herself. Or make it an issue that will no doubt cause a rift between you both in time to come.

Simple really. Love her, love her tattoos.

PS. I have tattoos and trust me, thinking they're ways to cover up insecurities may be true of your girlfriend, but don't make such a sweeping generalisation because it's sure as hell not true for me.

sit her down, don't be judgmental, aggressive, or condemning but tell her they way you feel and why you feel that way, remember relationships are about give and take so work on reaching a compromise with her. also, this shouldn't be about you being worried about preserving you image. if that the only reason then

some tattoos can bring out beauty on some who is already beautiful. a good artist and a beautiful piece of art with the right colors can do this.

just stay open minded and no matter what she decides it's her choice. another question for you is, will you like/love her any less because of a tattoo? i seriously doubt a tattoo will change the way you feel about her. also, this shouldn't be about self preservation of your image to society. if that is the the only reason you feel this way, then you may want to seriously re-consider your relationship.

This is a crossroads in your relationship and YOU have the choice here. Either you can accept her decision or move on. But in no way should you attempt to force her to not do what she wants.

Just to let you know your analysis of why people get tattooed is wrong in most cases. I'm sure there are people who get tattooed for the reason you mentioned but most people get tattooed for personal reasons and not because they are insecure. Actually you have to be pretty secure in yourself knowing that what you are doing will bring ridicule upon you from some people.

Sounds like you don't really love her for who she is. If she wants tattoos that is her choice. Maybe you are concerned with how people will look at you for being with someone with tattoos. I didn't get my tattoos to cover up insecurities...I got them to show my soul to the world. I got them because they helped me heal from certain issues in my life. If you love your girlfriend you will respect her wishes and what she wants in life. If you can't you should let her go.

this is something that you two will have to work on together, you need to decide if it is a deal breaker for your relationship and she needs to decide if she is willing to let you dictate the decisions in her life.

people get tattooed for a multitude of reasons and as far as i have seen most don't get them to cover up insecurities. that is an insulting judgement to all of us who are tattooed. as is the generalization that she'll be a biker chick. you seem to have serious stereotyping issues and that is something you need to deal with. the world is changing and people can be who they are and should be able to be themselves without being judged and ridiculed and stereotyped by closed minded people like you.

you seem like a vain self centered image concerned person who only sees the outside and cares nothing about what is on the inside so maybe your relationship has run it's course.

Well, I believe that it is ultimately her choice and if she wants to get them then you aren't going to be able to stop her. Tell her your opinion, but respect hers if she gets them anyway. Don't be judgemental of her and don't even think about threatening to break up with her because of them.

tough crap. it's HER body, not yours.

i got my tattoo right before my husband and i started dating. he got his right after. I'm getting more in the future, and while he might get one more, he's not a tattoo-holic. he loves the idea of me getting tattoos.

just because SHE wants tattoos, you're going to give up on a great person? tattoos don't define the person. it helps them display their creative side. if you can't handle that, then you aren't the right person for her. she can do better.

BTW: unless she jumps on a Harley every day, she's not a "biker chick"...

Bottom lineis that she is her own person and should be able to freely express herself in any way she wishes. if you try to dissuade her...she is probably just going to be resentful of you. being tattooed has absolutely nothing to do with insecurities ( i have multiple, large- visible tattoos -nor am i really the "biker chick" type hahah). respect your girlfriend- if she chooses to go ahead and get the work done she wants- if you truly love her, it won't matter and you very well may grow to love that part of her too.

Tell her why you don't like them! She should listen to you. If she refuses to even consider your opinion, she might not be your life partner. And make sure to tell her some things that AREN'T good about tattoos! Like, once you get older and your skin gets all wrinkly, the tattoo is ruined. The only way you can get it off is by expensive laser removal or by burning through multiple layers of skin. both processes are rather painful. But make sure to respect her opinion, too.

Wanna swap girlfriends? I can't get mine to do anything exciting or sexy like that.
