    Sean is the original spelling. Shawn and Shaun are an anglicized form of Sean, and Sean is the Irish form of John.

    The original spelling was Sean - it is the Gaelic version of John.

    If you're talking about the Irish spelling, it's Sean. Shawn & Shaun are the bastardized spelling, or phonetic spelling if you like that better.
