Sean is the original spelling. Shawn and Shaun are an anglicized form of Sean, and Sean is the Irish form of John.

If you're talking about the Irish spelling, it's Sean. Shawn & Shaun are the bastardized spelling, or phonetic spelling if you like that better.

the original spelling depends on the country because each country has different languages and ways of spelling things. but in most countries, the original spelling is Sean.
