Where to buy yarn?
I love to knit but I find the stuff at Michaels craft store to be expensive, at 7-10$ per skein. Is there some place online I can get it cheaper? Even if it's a mixed lot, or in bulk...
I'm from Canada :)
I'm not really looking for anything in particular... I'm into the fru-fru stuff (ribbons and sparkles and fluffies), but I have no preference when it comes to material, colour, or weight.

Smileys has some pretty good prices. Also, Herrschners.com has weekly sales that offer some pretty good bargains--but you have to be quick. The new items come out Wed afternoons and the good stuff is often gone by Thurs morning. Right now, they have some of their worsted weight holiday yarn (with sparkle wrap) for $1.88 per skein. The dark blue looks really nice.
You might also try this: the Joanns near me takes competitor coupons as well as their own. I go down there on Monday with Michaels and Hobby Lobby coupons from the Sunday paper as well as Joanns internet and flier coupons. That way I can buy 3-5 skeins at a time for 40% off. If my husband comes with me, I can have him do the same thing and get all the yarn I need for a project nearly half off. Even if I have to do it on two different days, it is worth it for the savings.

I'm not sure what state your in but where I'm from some great places to go are 1. Micheals 2. JoAnn Fabrics 3. Crafts 2000 (it's a warehouse of craft supplies that have discounts all the time). These are all in Michigan!

Often I find that JoAnn's Fabrics runs specials on yarns, hand dyed almost always cost more, but if your looking for Coats n Clark, the average is about $4.00 per skein. You can also order many brands from their website if there isn't a store near you.

Sigh, how do I tell you this, but that's what most average yarns run in price. But, go to Smileys.com, Elann.com, www.yarn.com (Webs) all of which ship to Canada. Paton's has a Canadian base, too, and an outlet store that's on-line, too.Source(s): I have been knitting for 53 years.
