what is the proper name for a women's fragrance? perfume or cologne?

I always assumed it could be either, but a friend of mine was determined it could only be called " perfume". Can you clarify this little matter for me?

there are two different kinds of perfumes and colognes.

eau de toilette- that is a spray that is sometimes called 'body spray' and when it is sprayed, you usually spray two or three sprays and it stays on for an hour or two. these bottles are typically less elaborate and toilette costs less.

eau de parfum- that is the perfume that you spray once and it is very strong, and stays on throughout the whole day. this costs more, and in the magazine articles they always advertise the parfum.

    most people call both, perfume.

but if you look down, it says parfum or toilette.

For me: Britany Spears delusion! It smells like clementines, cotton candy, cupcakes... so extreme-high quality and candy. For adult men: Hollister Jake. i do no longer probably like Hollister besides the undeniable fact that it smells reeeeeally sturdy.
