In Lewis dot diagrams, what do the dots represent?

    The dots represent electrons. A pair of dots is a pair of electrons. When a pair of electrons is between two nuclei it is a bond and my be represented as a line. When a pair of electrons is next to one nuclei it is a lone pair.
