because i have a acer t180 the processor is a amd 64 x2 dual 4200+ with 2 gig's of mem.(512 x 4) & this thing is slower then my 3 month old. i dont have viruses, adware or spyware why is it so slow? + when i'm suring the net & i keep clicking things like next or something that takes me to a diffrent page it will eventually cut off.

no not my net speed because i have cable. it's the computer it moves like i paid 20$ for it.

Update 2:

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.

First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.

    2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:

    1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser

    2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".

    3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.

    4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.

    5. Click OK.

    3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

    1. Open your Start menu.

    2. Click Run

    3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"

    4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab

    5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

    6. Click "OK"

Other great tip is increasing your virtual memory to simulate more RAM. This will give you a bit more resources for multiple program use or CPU heavy programs.

Hope this link helps. Shows you how to do everything step by step. You should get a least 60-120% more resources and speed

    if you follow the tips.

First thing to do is clean up the mess on it. Do a Disk Cleanup and then run your Disk Defragmentor program.

From there you can max out your RAM which I highly recommend, this will allow you to switch between applications and make all your apps run more smoothly.

Beyond that go through your add/remove hardware area and look for programs that are unnecessary or useless to you. If they're not required as a part of your system process remove and delete them.

Once this is completed do one more defrag of your system and you should be ready to roll at light speed.

The two biggest slowdowns of most computers are forwarded e-mail attachments as well as downloads that you don't completely remove.

If you have a good Anti-Spyware program and and Anti-Virus program I would run them last just before your final Disk Defrag.

    What OS are you using?

Windows Vista 64bit should only be used if your system has more than 4GB RAM, otherwise it will slow down your system.

If you are running Vista 64 I would suggest you reinstall with the 32 bit version. You should have a 2nd disk with the 64 Bit unless it came preinstalled, then you would have to do a system restore and if the manufacturer gave you the option you should be able to install 32 Bit.

If you have a lot of software running in the background it will slow you down too. If your Virus/Spy-ware software is scanning that will slow it down more than anything.

Oh, nearly forgot, if your browser is running a Phishing filter that will slow down your internet a little but is mostly unnoticeable unless the site is really bad.

You may have installed multiple applications running in the background which use up memory space...

You can also defragment your harddisk to free up space and optimize speed, Clean up your registry with a registry cleaner like System mechanic from Iolo, and uninstall/delete unwanted programs or files..

And If you really know that you dont have any viruses or adware or spyware then this should do it otherwise you better get good antispyware/antivirus software..

From what I gather from your question, you are talking about a slow internet connection. That has nothing to do with your computer speed. you can have a supercomputer, but if your using dial-up then it is going to be slow. you need to check on your internet connection. If that is what you are talking about.

If not your net speed, then you have a serious problem somewhere. See how many processes you have running in task manager. 30 - 50 should be the max. look at how much memory they are using and investigate them on google to see what they are.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.

Go to the site below and learn how to set all that power the way you should have when it was installed.

Most people buy all that high powered stuff, but don't bother to turn the resources on they already have in their computer.

You definetly have bloatware, running on your computer.

Maybe a bad registry, unnecessary programs, annoying processing, etc
