Why does my 2.9L v6 engine surge at low idle?

I have a 1987 Ford Ranger with 160,000 miles and it runs good, but it surge's with light pressure to the foot throttle.

Before you can start to diagnose an issue like this, it's always best to make sure everything is in good running order, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter, air filter, oil change, and coolant flush. Once you've got everything in proper order you can start to diagnose issues.
