What you say just about sums it up...accepting Christ through baptism offers a freedom from the lifelong guilt of sin, allowing us to forgive ourselves just as God forgives us. If I am reading you right, it looks like you are arguing that since we will be picked up every time we fall, we can sin as much as we want. Well, this may be true, but I don't want to test it and find out! Just because there is forgiveness doesn't mean there aren't consequences in this life, let alone the next. Getting drunk is probably a lot of fun, but the consequences of this often leads to ruined relationships, divorce, abuse, and broken homes. It's not that God doesn't want us to have fun and enjoy alcohol as one of his creations, he just doesn't want it to have a negative impact on our lives and the lives of those around us. Too much of anything is hardly ever good, and based on examples and teachings from scripture, I think it's fine to have a beer or two in the proper setting, but that to lose control and get hammered is not appropriate in any setting because you no longer are capable of making responsible decisions. I'd love to go on, but there is so much to discuss on the issue, so I'll leave it as it is in its very brief and summarized form. Hope you have a better understanding of where I am coming from as a Christian, and I hope you have a fantastic day!
