Does anyone know why Wikipedia is banned in China?

    Because China is trying to keep it's people from learning about its past, e.g. the Tiananmen Square massacre. Its just generally a good way to keep people from finding stuff the government doesn't want them to know, since wikipedia is so widely used and has so much info

    Its all due to the PRC governments censorship laws. The site was last blocked in August this year (2007) and there has been no indication of it being unblocked again.

    There are ways to circumvent the block, either by using proxies which will allow the users to view but not edit wikipedia articles, or by a company called psiphon software, which aims to help users circumvent the block (http://psiphon.civisec.org)/
