What is the number of oxygen atoms in 55.0 g of iron(II) hydroxide (Fe(OH)2 (molar mass 89.85 g/mol))?

    Divide the mass by the molar mass of the compound to get moles: 55.0/89.85 = .612 mol. Since the O and the Fe(OH)2 are in a 1:2 ratio, there are 1.22 mol of O. Multiply 1.22 by avogadro's number, and you have atoms of O: 1.22 x (6.022 x 10^23) = 7.37 x 10^23 atoms O.
