Does anyone know which "prophet" cursed the Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City?

And can you document the curse with chapter and verse?

Joseph Smith is his name.

D & C 132 verse 4 says:

4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting acovenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye be damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.

The entire chapter 132 spells out the rules for plural marriage and verse 4 says if you change it you are dammed. I'd suggest you read the whole chapter.

In 1890 the Latter Days Saints of Utah rejected it, by banning plural marriage and therefore, according to Joseph Smith, they are all damned.

Update 2:

There was a foot note in the original which I copied and pasted. The footnote a was missed. Below is the same pasage without the footnote:

4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye be damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.

EDIT: Your conclusion isn't logical. If continuing revelation is real, then by definition God can change His commandments to mankind (as He has done many times in the Bible). Why do you believe in a god that stopped speaking to man more than 2,000 years ago? Did God stop caring or did He lose the ability to give revelation?

Ephesians 4:31-32 says..." Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away with all Malice:

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

First, evil speaking is also known as Backbiting and Slander... We are told not to...

I can't understand why a PASTOR is trying to slam the LDS church!!!

As an LDS I find this very hurtful. We are not a cult, we DO NOT believe in plural marriages,BUT we do believe in the Bible.

There are many misunderstandings about the LDS church. I would encourage anyone that has any questions about this religion to ask a Mormon or visit

As for Pastor Art I'm sorry I didn't answer your question, I believe in Christ and his atonement for us. I know that this probably does not change your opinion about the LDS church... but if you find some free time try reading the Book of Mormon. It is another Testament of Jesus Christ. You may not believe that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet... but you do believe in Christ... there is at least one reason to read it.

Good Luck in finding your answer.

Haven't heard of a "curse." I have, however, heard of a prophecy where Salt Lake City would become one of the most wicked cities. Just recently I read that someone rated Salt Lake City as like 11th across the nation in being friendly to homosexuals, which made my mouth drop, as most of us who actually live here in the state are committed to the divine pattern of families established by God, with marriage between a man and a woman. The ACLU seems to reign supreme in the heart of the city, by the way.

P.S. So are you saying you believe in polygamy?

P.S. S. Bartolomeo, I can't answer your question without being accused of chatting, and you don't take email for some reason. Friendliness is absolutely ok, but I mean to say that openly supporting an alternative lifestyle on the scale that a city government would be included in a national rating would not.

It sounds to me that you are doing the very thing yourself (causing divisions and contentions) with your questions here singling out a religion. Better check the ole' hypocrisy meter. Yours is rising sky high.

Hey Cookie, since when is being "friendly towards the homosexuals" such a bad thing? Shouldn't we be friendly towards everyone?

To Cookie: I see. Pardon for the misunderstanding. :)

It started at the very beginning when Joseph Smith said the true church had been lost, Jesus established the true church and said it would never be lost, not even the gates of hell would prevail against it, this is the first of many lies that the LDS church is based on. Brigham Young also stated in a speech he gave that the day the LDS church let black people hold the priesthood would be the day the LDS church would fall and crumble. The LDS church is a cult, go read the bible.

  • I guess you haven't been to Utah lately. It is far from cursed. In fact most visitors will tell you what a beautiful place with the most beautiful people. Definitely the best looking people.

A false prophet cannot curse anyone, Pastor Art. All s/he can do is mislead his/her followers. Although I certainly don't support LDS theology, I think it was somewhat of a good sign that they rejected Smith's false prophecy with some degree of humility. Maybe someday, the LDS church will reject the rest of Smith's "doctrines of demons."
