I'm reading about that rite now for my AP US History class! Joseph McCarthy the person died as a result of chronic alcoholism. He was exposed to the country in 1954 when he accused the Army of being associated with Communists. The Army obviously ended him by going on national television and exposing him.
A few months later, the Senate formally condemned him for "conduct unbecoming a member."

A handful of people were brave enough to speak out against Senator Joseph McCarthy.
Among the most vocal McCarthy opponents was a CBS TV Journalist named Edward R Murrow, who's show called "See It Now" ran several segments devoted on McCarthy, the Red Scare, and the the honest, loyal Americans it affected.
In the end, the Senate Censured McCarthy, and put an end to his hearings. The House followed suit and put an end to their hearings as well. The senate had organized a committee to investigate him, called the Watkins Committee, which "recommended that McCarthy be censured on two of the 46 counts: his contempt of the Subcommittee on Rules and Administration, which had called him to testify in 1951 and 1952; And his abuse of General Zwicker in 1954"
But McCarthy continued to serve in the Senate until he died in office in 1957. He was 48 years old.
Now you know. Good night, and good luck.
