Fermentation Question?

How would you determine whether a bacterium fermented the following carbohydrates: mannitol, sorbitol, adonitol, or arabinose?

    Grow them in a broth that has those carbohydrates as the sole carbohydrate source. Use phenol red as a pH indicator. Fermentation will result in acid waste production which will turn the broths yellow. If they stay red or orange, the carbohydrates were not fermented.
