How do I make the squared or cubed sign in Word Processor?

I'm typing my Physics notes for my Final tomorrow and it would save some space if I knew how to do the squared sign for formulas.

Make sure Number Lock is on, then press the alt-key and the numeric codes for these characters. Squared (²) is either alt-253 or alt-0178, and cubed (³) is alt-0179.

This is much quicker than inserting special characters from the drop-down box.
