    If you are just trying to connect both of your computers, you should use a crossover cat5 cable. Then you assign 2 IP addresses to each of your computers. If you are planning on using both of your computers with your internet connection, then it would probably be better for you to get a small router (D-Link, Linksys, etc), and have a technician or someone you know, install it for you.

    Easiest, quickest method is to get a hub ($6) and two pieces of network cable. Plug one end of first cable into 1st pc, then other end into hub. Same for 2nd pc. Set file sharing to on and share a directory or two...

    Now you are networking!

    use a cross cable to connect two computers directly.. Or you can also use USB.. port.. from one computer to another. Also you can use serial port. But make sure the firewall settings are right, in both computers.
