What is a good birthday present for a 6 year old girl?

My husband and I were invited to a birthday party, it’s an old friend of his that he lost touch with and recently “caught” back up with. Well we were invited to his daughters 6th birthday party for a game night once the girls start watching their movies. I thought it would be a nice gesture to bring his daughter a gift but I don't know what a "universal gift" for a six year old is..... So please HELP!

I would not give bratz or myscene dolls, as they can be controversal. For example, I do not allow them in my house. They wear too much make up and look like little sluts. I would go with something like:

Polly Pockets

Art supplies

Crafts

Webkinz

BOOKS

Board Games

I love doing cute packages, like some cute pajamas and a couple books to read at bed time.

Or a kids movie and popcorn/candy.

You can do a scooter or kids rollerskates, so she can go outside and get some exercise.

Kids cookbooks.

If she is a "Girly-girl" Polly-pocket or Littlest Pet Shop toys are a big hit right now. So are Web-kinz, which are stuffed animals that you buy and then take care of online; one animal is less than $15.00. You can also buy packs of trading cards to accompany the Webkinz. Lately, one thing I have been doing for girl birthday gifts is buying a funky T-shirt (High-school musical, funny saying, cats, whatever that girl is into), and a zipper sweatshirt to go over it. If you shop the right racks, you can do it pretty economically for the same cost of a toy. It has been a huge hit.

Most 6 year olds like dolls such as Polly pocket and things. But if your unsure what her interests are then you should probably go with bored games or a movie.

Barbie doll, baby doll, one of those baby doll stoller, tea set, DO NOT GET BRATZ dolls. I know a lot of parents that don't like their kids to play with those. One of the new disney movies out.
