Photoshop CS3 comes with RAW plug in version that has already been updated to version 4.3

The default version was able to read CR2 from my camera (5D) already. If you're using the new 40D, you need to update (the link above is for Windows). Or you can easily update via HELP menu and click UPDATE. To manually update (for Windows, at least), you have to copy the file to c:\program files\common files\adobe\plug ins instead of c:\program files\adobe\photoshop cs3. Let the updater do it for you.

If you can't open these files in Photoshop, then go to this page and download the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and follow the instructions on the page how to install it.
