Bias and standardized tests?

Many educators argue that standardized tests are inherently discriminatory. As a teacher, what steps would you take to minimize bias in testing and grouping practices?

    The bias that many people speak about are concerning the reading passages that you see. Often the subject matter in these passages are based upon a Caucasian background, so asking your students to read a variety of texts, articles, and books will give them a better breadth of knowledge.
