What does the delta mean in Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol?
I am doing research on how Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol affects memory and was wondering if anyone could explain what the name stands for scientifically.

Δ9 stands for the position of a double C=C bond in the THC molecule.
This bond is located in the ring on the upper left in this picture:
the C=C bond can be at the position 6a,7,8,9,10 and 10a.
So you have 6 isomers of THC. Only Δ8THC, Δ9THC and Δ10a THC are psychoactive drugs
