How do you set a "simplex" WALL CLOCK that has syncronous 110 volt motor?

This is a large wall clock like the ones in school. When I first plug in the clock the minute hand and the second hand turn together untill it hits six oclock. Then it resets and assumes regular movement. It has a lever in back to make it do this.
