Crating is when you put the dog in his/her crate usually when you leave the dog alone or at night. This way the dog won't mess up the house and will feel safe (this is his home away from home after all).

This is a new trend, "the dog in a box" dreamed up by some self styled experts strictly for the benefit of the owner. They dreamed up the idea that the poor dog likes to spend all day shut up in his "den". Then when we finally get the poor dog in rescue, they are a mental mess.

If the dog is destructive, I really think keeping it in a room, even a small one, or an exercise pen is much more humane. If you are pet sitting, I'd keep the dog out of the crate as much as possible. JMHO.

For god's sake, this is animal abuse at it's finest and a catch 22. If the dog were out and exercised, the behavior would not be nearly that bad. Without pack interaction and socialization, you get exactly what you have. There is no magic wand you can waive to make this dog calm. this dog needs structured exercise and discipline. He can only learn to be calm when he sees the reward in it and right now there is too much energy to burn off. Please BEG her to turn her over to the humane society. Or, if she has some identifiable breed, a local rescue. Rescue organizations usually have breed savvy people always looking to rehabilitate dogs like this to get them into a good home. >> And although the idea of running loose in the Dog Park sounds like a good idea, It is not advisable until you know the temperament of the dog. Remember, you're only house sitting. Should the dogs energy be so out-of-control that it ends up tangling with another dog, there is a liability there you don't want. A better idea would be to work with someone who knows how to exercise a dog to the bike or roller blades. Another option is work with a trainer to treadmill train the dog.

  • They have a kennel, crate, pet carrier that you put them in when your away or sleeping if the dog isnt allowed on the bed at night.

the dog has a den. You put the dog there when you can not be there or maybe just to sleep in so the dog does not get into things and possibly harm themselves while people are away or asleep. Here is a link that explains it all.
