A maize (dark golden color) would go well with a light stained wood (is the wood "stained" or painted yellow?)

I saw in a friends house... the walls were pale pink, the furniture was oak, but I think it had been stained, so it was a little darker than the normal light oak. But it looked really nice. Mahogany or Cherry would be nice, but might look too heavy/dark against the pink.
