    She was always active in politics and after the President's death in 1945, she became a delegate to the United Nations Assembly and was Chair of the UN Human Rights Commission from 1947 to 1951. It was during her period of tenure that the Declaration was drawn up and promulgated. Her work in this area was foreshadowed by her 1940 book "The Moral Basis of Democracy".
