How do you conquer any fear? You do so by doing the thing you fear the most.
I can wholeheartedly sympathize with you. I used to be the most shy human on this planet, especially as a child. I was so shy in schools, kids called me Zombie because I used to walk with my head down to avoid facing others. I was so shy that I would perspire like a cow while my heart would race out of my chest whenever someone asked me a question. As I got older, I realized that shyness was going to impede my life' possibilities so I decided to do something about it. Now, I have more friends than I can handle. Believe me, it wasn't easy.
Once I realized that shyness may have to do with fear of rejection, I started talking to anyone and everyone no matter where they were and who they were. I would start a conversation on lines at the banks, grocery stores, hiking trails, gas stations, airports, you name it. Now, I am a big nuisance to this planet and its beautiful humans.
The more I did it, the easier it got. I have never met a single human who did not acknowledge me, in fact they are always cordial vis-a-vis my affability. Some may even think that I 'm crazy. But, once I put a smile on their faces, everything changes.
You meet a guy that you like, go ahead and say hello. Don't be shy, you'll be surprised to know that he may even be more shy than you are.
Assuming you say hello. What can possibly happen? Think.
1) He'll say hello back and ask you out on a date.
2) He'll say hello back and agree to be your friend.
3) He'll say hello back and let you know that he has a girlfriend.
4) He'll say hello back and introduce you to his brother, cousin or best friend.
The possibilities are endless, my child.
Each time you miss the chance of meeting someone new because of your shyness, you may miss out on many opportunities. Once you say hi, don't stop there. Make eyes contact and expand the conversation. Stand up straight and with confidence. It won't be long before you start to conquer them all.
I am not saying that I am 100% cured from shyness because I dread public speaking. It's rather funny, I'm great one on one but once I stand in front of the humans, then Mr. Cat cuts my tongue.
Don't worry, you're not alone, we all have our own little fears, that's why we are humans. But, since you're aware of it and acknowledge it, you'll soon conquer it.
Good luck to you!
