manufacturers are the producers of goods and services.

retailers are those who purchase these goods and services from the manufacturer and provide them to the customer.

so, manufacturer is the first party, customer the second, and retailer the third party.

e.g., Wall Mart provides products of Proctor & Gamble. wall mart is the retailer and P & G is the manufacturer.

a franchise of a GSM cellular company is providing some of the services of that company. the company is manufacturer and the franchisee is the retailer.

A manufacturere is the person or company who makes a good...like an article of clothing or a shirt. A retailer is one who takes the manufacturer's product and sells it. For example....the Milton Bradley board game company is the manufacturer of Monopoly, while Target or Wal mart could be the retailer.
