Clever is like Tall. Can't do much about it. But you can be well read, or well educated, or expert in a particular subject.... and a many other things

Just do what needs to be done. If your desire to be clever is great enough, it will motivate you to do the work. You just need to decide which desire is greater:

being clever

or not wanting to work
