green has always been a colour associated with pagan rituals - for example, the Green Man.
i had just done some quick research on a website called Authorsden.com , and if u search for a section called vision/metaphysical > articles > the mythology of the green man, it tells u a bit about why the colour green is associated as being 'evil'. basically, u can put it down to the propaganda spread by the roman catholic church, who wanted people to turn their backs on their pagan ways.
so basically, green was turned from being a symbol of good, into a symbol of evil, in order to help convince people to convert from paganism to Catholicism.
the witch portrayed in the wizard of oz film was just Hollywood using an already well known stereotype.
i can't believe that one person who answered your question still thinks along the lines of green being evil.... are we actually in the 21st century ? because i think someone needs to get her facts straight..... utterly ridiculous.
( pagan mythology is something that interests me a lot, so i like to think that my answers are reliable, and based on facts)
