    Mr Ho bought a flat at the beginning of 2004 and sold it at $2300000 at the end of December 2004. Suppose the price of Mr Ho's flat dropped by 23% from Jan. to Oct. but increased at 6% every month from Nov. in 2004.

    a. How much did Mr Ho pay for the flat, correct to the nearest ten thousand dollars?

    x(1 - 23%)(1 + 6%)^2 = 2300000

    x = 2658430.925... = 2660000

    b. Find the percentage change in the price of the flat within 2004, correct to 3 sig. fig

    (2300000 - 2660000) / 2660000 * 100%

    = -13.5%
