Looking for some good books to read?

I haven't been much of a book reader in the past, but I want to find a few good books to read. I'm not into sci-fi or sad/depressing storylines. So besides those topics, does anyone have any suggestions of a few good must-read books?

    if you like historical fiction:

    Katherine: Anya Seyton

Pride and Predjudice: Jane Austen (my all time favorite book, it is very easy to read despite being written so long ago, don't let that turn you off)

    Second Glance: Jodi Picoult

    Shadowbrook: Beverly Swerling

The other Bolyen Girl: Phillipa Gregory

    Nefertiti: Michelle Moran

    the Blind Assassin: Margaret Atwood

    City of Dreams: Beverly Swerling

    Emma: Jane Austen

The weight of Water: Anita Shreve

    Cold Mountain

    Charlotte Gray: Sebastian Faulks

    My MUST-READ Booklist:

    Mark Twain - Huckleberry Finn

Jane Austen - Pride and Prejudice

William Golding - The Princess Bride (hysterical!)

Harper Lee - To Kill A Mockingbird (this is one of my favorites)

William Makepeace Thackeray - Vanity Fair

And if you like fun, easy-to-read novels, I DEFINITELY suggest Richard Adams' book: 'Watership Down'. It's very sweet.
