Breast yeast infection... I'm now taking Diflucan, but I only got 1 pill?
I got 150 diflucan but to my kowledge I thought with a yeast infection on the breast I thought you take more. Has anyone had to take it and if so for how long & did it work? They also told me to pump and dump, but why if Diflucan is given to babies for yeast?
Nystatin just made mine worse it didn't get rid of my baby's thrush either. I've been pumping and bottle feeding so his thrush is mild.

Hello, I'm on the second week and seeing definite improvement on my yeast infection symptoms:
Note that: If the yeast infection doesn't respond to over the counter treatment, prescription medication will likely be necessary. Similarly, if the symptoms return after two months of being treated, you should contact the doctor for professional treatment rather than resorting again to home treatment.
If this is the first time you have experienced a yeast infection, you should schedule an appointment to have the condition treated by a doctor instead of resorting to home treatment

Yeast infections can keep spreading back & forth between mother & baby. The link blow also includes many other sources of reintroduction of the culture. It will help you understand why it keeps reoccuring if you are not eliminating the sources.
Taken from the link below:
In addition to the medical treatment, there are other steps you can take.
Wash all bras, bra pads, nightgowns, etc (anything that comes in contact with your nipples) in HOT water with bleach and dry on hot in the dryer or in the sun.
Rinsing your nipples with a vinegar and water solution (1 tablespoon vinegar to 1 cup water) after every feeding is helpful. Use a fresh cotton ball for each application and mix a new solution every day.
Some women add acidophilus supplements (40 million units per day) to their diet.
Some women find that reducing yeast and sugar in their diet helps.
These home remedies can be effective but they should be in addition to the medication, not instead of it.Source(s): http://www.llli.org/FAQ/thrush.html

I always get yeast infections while taking antibiotics. My Dr. always gives me one pill of Diflucan, and by the next day, I am much better. It is much better than dealing with the Monistat cream. Call your Pediatrician and tell them that the thrush is not going away and find out if there is another prescription that you can get for the baby.

YOU PUMP AND DUMP B/C THE DIFLUCAN WILL WORK FOR SEVERAL DAYS SO BY CONYINUING TO BREAT FEED YOU ARE JUST RECYCLING THE INFECTION BETWEEN YOU TWO. YOU NEED TO BE TREATED AND HE NEEDS TO BE TREATED. YOU WANNA MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ROLLED GAUZE AND WET IT AND WIPE THE WHITE SPOTS OUT OF THE INSIDE OF HIS MOUTHSource(s): i AM A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
