Sand is pretty cool in a geological-paleontological sort of way... Sediments come down rivers - the heavier stuff, mostly silica rock crumbs, drop out 1st as it reaches the ocean ( the lighter stuff - clays, minor sediments, & dissolved minerals, are carried further out to sea). So you get beaches. Impurities carried down from the rivers give some of the colors. Volcanic areas have black beaches because lava (black) is shredded by the wave action & makes 'sand'. Pink beaches have alot of ground up coral in them...mostly island areas with lots of wave action ie. Hawaii. If its white it's mostly quartz, pure silica sand.
Just love beaches & oceans, but esp islands....
Been there, & checked it out, read, talked to people
