I always laugh at the people who don't want to buy a pc because they resent Bill Gates for being successful and wealthy. Like Steve Jobs is just an average guy. And some people moan about Microsoft being a monopoly. What about ipods?
Anyway, it depends on what you want to do. Macs are preferred by people doing a lot of publishing/ graphic applications. Although, a pc can do them too. Some people think Macs are easier to use. I don't think they're easier, just different. I don't agree that Macs are more expensive. A high end, customized pc will set you back a lot more. Macs can't be customized to the same extent, so the price sort of caps itself.
If you just want to do basic stuff, use the Internet and the programs that came with your Mac, I suppose a Mac would be OK. But there is a ton more software available for pcs.
True, pcs users have to be more concerned with viruses. But it's only because it's not worth sabotaging Macs - there's so few of them, compared to pcs. If you see them rising in popularity, you'll start hearing about viruses in Macs too. It's not that they're a safer design, it's just that they're not worth messing with because it won't screw up as many people (the point of viruses, right?)
PCs are much easier to upgrade and customize. I will always prefer pcs, because I'm a serious gamer, and I don't mean solitaire. Go to a site like Amazon, and compare how many games are available for Macs, then check PCs. No contest.
