It's likely due to censorship. China blocks numerous sites that the rest of the world (even the Russia) doesn't block. Their government is worried their people may discover a few things that they currently don't know without using various internet sites.

The government and Internet service providers of the People's Republic of China have blocked Wikipedia in mainland China due to strict censorship laws enacted in the PRC.

At least that is what the Wikipedia article says.

the reason why u cnt is that in china some of the internet websites are restricted, so that means that not every website is free to access is due to some laws from the china government, whereas this doesnt happen in united states or other countries

For years now China has blocked any bad press going out to other countries. They proud themselves and wish no advice from outsiders. Since the Internet has opened up the floodgates on wealth of information they have chosen to block sites for further protection from outsiders. There is a software program called Freenet that will allow its users to view more news and information from within the walls of China. Wake up America! China is very tough on its own people.

china has strict laws. it is not democratic country. it has imposed a lot of restrictness on media. even if something happens in china , the world gets to know about it atleast 15-20 days later.. and may be that too with wrong facts

.... it is like that only

because the Chinese government censors its internet and other mass knowledge accesses from its people. For instance, yu could find nowhere on the internet about the event that happend in Tiananmen square. like if yu searched it on google, they erased that info and yu would only find normal stuff about the place and not about this thing that happend about 15 years ago or so.

Remember China is communist and doesnt want their people to start getting info about the government that could pose a threat to them. :3

China has what has been coined 'the great firewall of China'

As Wikipedia has a lot of information about the government and what it gets up to, they've blocked it.

Along with anything else they feel the need to.

Censorship. The government does not want people able to look up things like, for example, democracy and ways it has been acheived i other nations.

Because it's blocked by the government.

As an aside, why do all the responses have at least one thumbs-down? Even the good ones.
