It is a responsibility which critics after the event do not shoulder.

Prime ministers have consistently for the past hundred years ignored the threat of the commodification of life. There is not one who cannot be said to be complicit in what will ultimately threaten the world we know; the disenfranchisement of the human species with itself.
To criticise this is to act in prevention. The voice of the people must not allow self-censorship to remove its one hope - that some day, life will once again be made sacred.

Indeed we are facing a terrible danger. First Sadam with huge rockets of latest design targeting London and New York, ready to be fired in 50 minutes. Now we have Iran with his arsenal of H bombs, aircraft carriers, naval bases round the globe etc.
We sure need the trident and all the submarines we can make. As for their cost, forget it. Not important. We can all live in one room per family if we have to. But we shall show them all we are the boss.

Apart from WW2 there has been no serious threat. Oh I forgot Mullah Mohammed Omar - the semi- blind Mullah - with a gang of 500 illiterate Taliban with rusty WW2 AK47 currently holding the US army down IN the badlands of Afghanistan while shipping heroin to all corners of the globe.
