There are infinite paths of development for on every one you will learn the to see the truth of its direction and understand that all look at the same truth but see from a different angle. Ultimately your soul can only travel in its own direction to the truth of life when it learns to understand it.

One path is escape from the wheel of life, and reunification with the divine totality of existence. In Buddhism, this is known as achieving Nirvana.

The other path involves returning into the material world to serve as a guide for those who are still struggling toward their spiritual eolution. In (some forms of) Buddhism, the souls that forsake Nirvana to work for the benefit of the rest of humanity are called bodhisattva.

Hi Rena, The first one is to guide earth bound people onto the correct path. The second one.Is to keep oneself on the right path.Through a higher level.Walking the correct path too.Learning the knowledge of life,s journey. And spiritual path too.

The two paths are best exemplified by the two gods of the bible, since it is the choice between them that we all make. The God of Love and forgiveness, and the Lord of jealousy and vengeance. These are obviously total opposites and cannot be compromised. Love is not jealous, and vengeance is unforgiving.
