If there is a sales tax or VAT , the tax authority will issue approved form of tax invoices to a trader selling goods. A portion of money on the price will be added as a sales tax or VAT. These tax will be accounted for and remitted to the tax authority. So, this is also served as a tax collection document. e.g. In Mainland, a special VAT invoice should be used.

Invoice is just an ordinary invoice issued to your customers. It normally used where there is no sales tax or VAT.
