Ok, so I know this means dark hair/skin, but is it also in reference to a black girl?

Yes, it is. It's not pejorative.

Yes it refers to all those things. The word may have been taken to describe a person native of the Morena province of North India or it may also derive from the word "moor" or "moro" in Spanish which refers to the Norther African Muslims.Source(s): Native Speaker Community Translator

Yes, literally it means "dark-coloured one" [feminine form], and it is NOT an insult. In fact, "negra" or "negrita" can be a very affectionate term. (So can the masculine forms, "*****" and "negrito".) [Not pronounced the same as in English!]Source(s): I know.
