Hi. This topic is something that not all Mormons agree on, and their leaders have not specifically condemned. It is suggested by the head of the church that members refrain from caffeinated sodas because they may be bad for your health. This is a completely personal decision, not mandatory. The levels of caffeine in chocolate are so minimal, they have little effect on your overall health. The guidelines are given to help you be healthier, stronger people. They make sense, too. Don't drink alcohol, coffee, strong drinks, smoke, etc. But the rest is completely up to the individual. I am LDS, born and raised. My parents believe that you shouldn't drink caffeinated sodas, but I think it's fine occasionally. We drink Coke, Dr Pepper, and other sodas in our house without thinking about it. However, we've never had coffee, or alcohol. I've never even thought about not eating chocolate because it has caffeine. We even have energy drinks. Anyways......

Not enough caffeine for it to cause an addiction. The problem Mormons have with caffeine is that it is addictive

Same conundrum....how is it that Mormons can't have caffeine but they can OWN the Pepsi company??????????????? A little moral contradiction maybe....HHHHmmmmm? I have several friends who are Mormon...they still have not answered any of my questions that I present to them about their 'religion'. I've told them that if they can show me Biblical evidence to support the Mormon 'logic' ....I would convert. I'm still waiting.

Caffeine on it's own is not prohibited as is tea and coffee. WE are counseled to be healthy with our choices so many choose to go without caffeine -- but there is no prohibition

All religions seem to have strange rituals.

The Roman Catholic church believes that the eucharist is, in fact, cannibalism. Many fundamentalist preachers advocate war.

Eating chocolate seems rather innocuous by comparison.
