    Are you talking about kendo?

If so, only their helmets are white. The rest of their uniforms are usually dark blue armor. The swords they use are made of bamboo.

The only sword-fighting sport I can think of where the participants wear all white is fencing, and I believe that's French or English. Those are also done with foils rather than regular swords.

Kenjutsu (剣術, Kenjutsu?) is the Japanese martial art specializing in the use of the Japanese sword (katana).

Generally, kenjutsu takes the form of partnered practice exercised through kata (pre-arranged forms, as opposed to competition, solo, or freestyle practice).

Kenjutsu is the core means by which koryū train their students to employ the Japanese swords against a variety of classical weapons, while indoctrinating the student in the combative mindset of the school. Therefore, kenjutsu can be seen as an integral aspect of all classical Japanese sword school curricula.

Today most koryū schools continue to employ kenjutsu as part of their curriculum. Some are even thriving on a relatively small scale. Schools (or ryū) such as Yagyū Shinkage-ryū, Kashima Shinto-ryū, Kashima Shin-ryū, Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-ryū, Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryū are some of the more famous still existing. Some of these schools trace their lineage to the early years of the Tokugawa shogunate. Many other schools can legitimately trace their history from the founder dating back to the 14th century, such as Maniwa Nen-ryū (founded: 1368) or Tatsumi-ryū (founded: Eishō era 1504-1521) or Kashima Shin-ryū (founded: ca. 1450).

Kendo is simply a sport utilizing some of the technique taught in Ken-jutsu. Hope this helps!

There are many names for different aspects of sword fighting. Iaido, or Iaijutsu is the art of drawing the sword. Batto Jutsu and Takeshigeri (sp?) are the arts of cutting with the sword. Kenjutsu is the art of fighting with the sword. Kendo is a sport that grew out of kenjutsu. Chanbara is another sport that grew out of Kenjutsu that uses foam padded weapons and protective gear for more active sparring.

the actual classical art of real live sword fighting is known as kenjutsu (the art of the sword) a more modern training variant is kendo (the way of the sword) that uses bamboo swords. Further more there is iaido which can be described as the art of drawing the sword

There are a few different schools. The most famous is Kendo. But there are also Kenjitsu schools, and even schools focused on just the drawing of the sword.

Uhh there is a difference between Kendo and Kumdo. Kendo is the Japanese art of fencing, and Kumdo is the Korean "equivalent".

It is aiado, not kendo, which is with sticks. Aiado is very formal and ritualized, and subtle in its perfection. And let me tell you, sitting watching someone practice is truly scary. When someone comes at you swinging a very sharp blade with intent and perfection, it surely feels like they're going to split your skull. And evidently the blade is so sharp it would be easy.
