A soccer ball is basically an inflated truncated icosahedron, therefore it has 12 pentagonal and 20 hexagonal panels.

There should be an equal number of each. Our church is a geodesic dome (constructed of pentagonal and hexagonal panels) this is half of a complete sphere (what a soccer ball would be) and it has 6 pentagons and 5 hexagons - the other side would have 5 pentagons and 6 hexagons totalling 11 of each.
